Jyothi wins gold, bronze for Aditi as archers win record nine medals | Asian Games

“India’s top compound archer Jyoti Surekha Vennam clinched a golden hat-trick on Saturday, while Aditi Swami won a bronze medal, helping the country’s archers secure a record haul of nine medals in the Asian Games.

Later in the day, Indian archer Ojas Devatale bagged a gold medal, while Abhishek Verma settled for silver in the men’s compound individual event.

Current world champion Aditi Swami assured India’s ninth medal in archery at the Games, starting the final day with a one-sided 146-140 victory over Indonesia’s Ratih Zilijati Fadhli in a one-sided bronze play-off.

The 17-year-old Indian, who had won the World Championships in Berlin just two months ago, couldn’t produce her best and had to settle for a four-point loss, but it did not matter as she won 146-140.

Later, Jyoti, who had already secured gold in mixed team and women’s team events, bagged three consecutive gold medals by defeating her strong South Korean opponent So Chaewon 149-145.

“I think words are missing, and a great deal of feelings are flooding. I want an opportunity to consider it,” Jyoti said.

India’s previous best performance in archery at the Asian Games was in Incheon 2014 when they returned with three medals – one gold, one silver, and one bronze.”
